I’m Ferdi, the vine fretter from Vienna. My favorite occupation is sitting with a good glass of Viennese wine at the Heuriger, the typical Viennese restaurant, to enjoy the Viennese hospitality.
As a true Viennese, I have a heart of gold. I am grass green, cuddly and of course the most beautiful vine fretter of all.
I also like to gossip, that’s why I love company. Here you will find my favorite Heurigen in Vienna, where you can visit me and my friends and take me home with you.
My Story
I look like a young chicken but am already over a hundred year`s old. In 1863, I crossed the ocean with a steam engine as a stowaway from New York to the South of France and then landed in Vienna in 1867. What an incredible place, I thought, and decided to stay here. (And in 1892 I settled in the most beautiful and comfortable part of the city: in Grinzing). Here I have everything I like. Vineyards, traditional music, local food and of course the best wines. It`s been already 150 years and I’m still not bored. Because in Grinzing, Nussdorf, and Neustift you can always experience something exciting.

There is nothing like family
For generations I have been at home in Grinzing. I was particularly influenced by Hans Maly, who was at the helm of this family business in the 2nd generation with a lot of charm and heart. Of himself he said that he must have been a vine fretter in his previous life.
Now his daughter Claudia and her family are running the Heuriger Maly in the 3rd generation. She is an incredible host who transforms every gathering into a special event. Claudia’s sister, Martina, is also a real winemaker’s daughter. She travels around the world, but her heart belongs to the Heurigen in Vienna. She has long had the idea to create copies of me so everyone can just take me along as a reminder of the Viennese hospitality. That`s the story of my creation!
Of course, my favorite place in Vienna is in the middle of the grapevines. There are the coziest Heurigen, the best vines and grape juices, shady garden with the best atmosphere.
